Assistance to Students and Academic Involvement in the Community

The financing of assistance services for students in higher education institutions comes from two main sources:

  • Assistance services arising from budgets of higher education institutions wherein student data is mainly on the basis of personal eligibility tests, such as: assisting students with disabilities and special needs, assisting students who are going to army reserve duty, counseling and guidance services, psychological services and more. Financial assistance is expressed in scholarships, prizes and loans, and is given to students at all degree-levels. The student assistance services are operated in institutions of higher education through the student deacon’s chambers and special assistance facilities.

  • Assistance services arising from direct governmental sources that focus mainly on six funds:
    • The Student Assistance fund from the Higher Education Council, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.
    • The ‘Perach’ Mentoring project, which is operated in cooperation with the Higher Education Council and the Ministry of Education.
    • The foundation for discharged soldiers, operated by the Ministry of Defense.
    • The Fund for encouraging higher education in the Ministry of Defense.
    • The fund of loans for students for training as teachers in the Ministry of Education
    • The principal of the students’ administration for immigrant students in the Absorption Ministry.

In addition to the aforementioned, there is also a scholarship and loans program for the Haredi sector and the Arab sector.

It should be noted that every year, the PBC gives support in over NIS 250 million in these activities.
