Teaching Innovation

In 2024, a 200M NIS 4-year initiative, “Academia 360” was launched. This initiative seeks to maintain the relevance of academic education in a world with increasing alternatives for academic degrees, and a rapidly changing job market that requires new and diverse skills, through the provision of financial assistance for upgrading a certain percentage of undergraduate degree programs. Academia 360 will contribute to: (1) improving teaching quality and focusing on learning outcomes and the student experience, (2) promoting an up-to-date curriculum, which emphasizes graduate employability by creating opportunities for practical experience and developing required skills and competencies, (3) strengthen social and community engagement.

In 2020 an 140M NIS initiative, jointly funded with participating Higher Education Institutions (matching funding), was launched. The initiative’s goal is to help establish and upgrade digital learning infrastructures in order to promote innovative teaching and enable greater accessibility of higher education. It also includes an investment in human capital and in data collection and control mechanisms. 28 public universities and colleges take part in the initiative, and participate in the Digital Learning Forum that was set up to encourage mutual learning and collaborations.

Between 2016-2020, five competitive Calls for Proposals were issued with a total budget of 55M NIS (jointly funded with Israel National Digital Agency and The Ministry of Education). The Calls for Proposals provided financial support for the production or conversion of academic courses to MOOCs. To date, more than 130 courses, including translations to English and Arabic, were uploaded to two online platforms: Campus IL and edX, under the brand IsraelX.
