Information about the higher education system

A major role in the work of the Planning and Policy Division, is the concentration and analysis of information about the higher education system. This information is a key tool in outlining the policy, budgetary work and planning of the Higher Education Council and the Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC). In addition, this data is used as the source of national information in everything related to the academic system and its diverse aspects.

Most of the data is collected annually by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The data refers to: candidates, students and alumni of the system, the different types of institutions, fields of study, population groups and more. Data on the research activities of the academic staff are collected from the Szold Institute and institutions themselves and include information on publications in scientific journals in Israel and abroad, and the winners of competitive, and other, research funds.

In addition to the collection of data, the Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC) invites surveys from the CBS about the higher education system, which are necessary for testing and formulating policies.  Student and alumni monitoring surveys conducted in recent years, refer to satisfaction from studies (quality of studies, infrastructures, student services and more), and occupational and academic development close to graduation time and in years following.
