Support for academic research – infrastructures and foundations

The central research infrastructures in academia are a necessary basis for the realization of potential for research and innovation growth and an engine for economic and social growth. These infrastructures are expensive and complex and require a large and diverse manpower to run them. Thus, the PBC is working to formulate planning processes several years ahead, using systemic vision and prioritizing.

In the framework of the multi-year plan, it was decided to continue to work for the promotion of excellence in research, mainly by increasing the resources for the allocation of competitive research (investing in local and international research funds) and by assigning significant resources to scientific equipment and research infrastructures. The need for equipment and infrastructures is at all levels: personal equipment for the researcher (including budgets for equipment for the absorption of outstanding staff members), cross-departmental infrastructures and national and systemic infrastructures. It should be noted that a significant part of the infrastructure budget is for promoting exceptional infrastructures in research fields which are ‘change bringers’:  Life Sciences (Custom Medicine), Physics (Quantum), Chemistry (Materials), Social Studies and Humanities – an infrastructure that has a physical component and a parallel component of information and data processing (Big Data).
